What A Snob
Rick Santorum
"You're So Vain"
“President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college, what a snob!” So sez losing 2006 Senate sanitarium candidate Santorum, who holds three college degrees, thanks in large part to federal college funding. Oh yah, this dude is also running a delusional campaign for president of the United States, and has actually won 3 primaries in 2012 because the members of the soon-to-be-defunct Republican Party are stuck with the inevitability of a Mitten of a nominee in Romney. The “snob” comment comes from a guy who prides himself in wearing Izod sweater vests whilst stumping and claiming to be opposed to all birth control measures – those sweater vests would obviously result in any potential mate refusing any and all birth-producing measures.
This whacko was exposed to the Pennsylvania electorate for 12 years and the good people of the Keystone State finally saw him for the insane fool that he is and turned him out of office by EIGHTEEN, count ‘em – 18 percentage points when they replaced him in 2006 with Bob Casey, Jr. But not only insane, the watchdogs “Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington” listed him as “as one of its ‘most corrupt politicians’". In a little-known corrupt fiasco, Santorum introduced a ludicrous bill innocuously entitled the National Weather Service Duties Act of 2005, which would have prevented the nation’s weather service from releasing any weather information which is also provided by private for-profit firms, such as AccuWeather, based in Pennsylvania and a $10,500.00 donor to the insanity Santorum for Senate campaign. The bill never even saw the light of day and even the Republican dominated committee assigned to the bill saw his self-serving shennanigans and never even voted on it.
Everyone knows The Sweater lost his reelection bid in 2006 by a landslide, but few speak of WHY? Numero Uno just might be his public dirty politics. Early in the campaign he and his campaign were doing everything they could to help the Green Party in PA get onto the Senate ballot. Of course Green Party lefty politics is anathema to Santorum and insane Santorum supporters, but having the Greens on the ballot would have hurt the Democrat Casey at the polls. He also caught himself in a residence controversy when he verbalized that he spent only "maybe a month a year" at his Pennsylvania home. In a previous campaign the ever-hypocritical Trickster Rickster had criticized opponent U.S. Representative Doug Walgren for not spending time in PA. Ever the self-serving rip-off artist, the same guy who opposes public school funding and education funding generally, again calling our incumbent President a “snob” for liking college training, Santorum, even though he only spent “maybe a month a year” in PA, was allowing PA taxpayers to fund 80% of the online education of FIVE of his own kids, a benefit available only to PA residents. He had to relent and withdraw his kids from the online school calling them political pawns. We can’t agree with Santorum more. HE HAD THE AUDACITY TO MAKE HIS OWN KIDS INTO POLITICAL PAWNS. The good folks of PA obviously agreed and turned him out by a margin unmatched in a PA Senate election in decades.
Nothing for a reasonable Republican to be ashamed of, long-time moderate PA US Senator Arlen Specter had actively supported the sanitarium candidate in his first Senate race in 1994, largely staffing his campaign and providing key support which won him that election. His party’s race to the right and its nearly fascist politics of the late 2000’s resulted in Specter winding up a pariah within his party and an independent. Santorum supported Arlen’s brief 2004 bid for the presidency, and hypocritically told his right-wing fanatic supporters that he only did so against Dubya because he held the key position of Chair of the Judiciary committee and without the insanity candidate’s support, Specter wouldn’t support the likes of Roberts and Alito onto the now fanatical right-wing Supreme Court. Nobody believed Santorum. Toward the end of the campaign, desperate, Santorum invoked Islamophobia, and a widely publicized ‘gathering storm’ speech referred to a 300 year war by Islam against the west, and what-not. Bob Casey, Jr. wisely commented at the time “No one believes terrorists are going to be more likely to attack us, because I defeat Rick Santorum."
So the fool loses in 2006. But ever the opportunist he sees that the field for Prez on the Repbublithief side is weak beyond belief and enters the fray. OMG! At points in this campaign, even the likes of Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, and Mitt Romney have led this sick pack, so it’s not too surprising that a loser of a FORMER US Senator from PA would enter what they’re calling a “Primary” on their side, and actually win primaries and slow Romney.
The fool has not only come out against college, he’s launched a campaign against women’s choice regarding abortion, other women’s rights, has launched a homophobic campaign as well, also has now opposed all forms of contraception, lambastes Islam as a religion in general regularly, not just radical extremists, and has more recently been campaigning against a candidate who’s been dead for nearly 50 years, and one of the most beloved Presidents in American history, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (he has more schools named for him than Santorum will—I don’t even think the Rickster stands a chance of making a Wheaties box or even less likely the cover of The Rolling Stone).
Don’t worry, Santorum is a straw man. No chance at the nomination, its Mitt’s. And Romney will lose, but don’t let down your guard; campaign like it was a real race this year. If we do that, then we’ll retake the House and have numbers in the Senate which will make Mitch McConnell more impotent than someone in bed with Santorum wearing an Izod sweater vest.
